Error Downloading .NET Framework 4.7.2 justinsnider  2024-01-09 14:33:54

Hello,

I tried downloading Skyline for a 64-bit Windows computer with internet and received an error message that .NET Framework 4.7.2 was needed for the download. When I download .NET Framework 4.7.2, I received the attached error message.

Any ideas on how to fix this error? Thanks!

Where exactly are you trying to install Skyline from?

The error that you are getting mentions the path:
C:\Users\Ironhide\Downloads\Skyline-64_23_1_0_268_2\Skyline-64_23_1_0_268\Application Files\Skyline_23_1_0_268\Skyline.application

I think that what that means is that the Skyline that you are trying to run is one that was installed using the "Unplugged" installer.

The unplugged installer is the one that can be downloaded from this page:
https://skyline.ms/wiki/home/software/Skyline/page.view?name=install-64-disconnected_23_1

Was it your intention to use the unplugged installer?
Have you tried using the regular installer from the following page?
https://skyline.ms/wiki/home/software/Skyline/page.view?name=SkylineInstall_64_23-1&submit=false

Did you get a different error when you tried to use the regular installer, and is that why you are using the unplugged installer?

If you weren't trying to use the unplugged installer, then I would recommend going into "Add/Remove programs" in "Control Panel" and uninstalling Skyline, and maybe also reboot the computer and try again.

Hi Nick,

Thank you for your response and suggestions. I tried installing Skyline using both the unplugged and regular installer after rebooting the computer and received the same error messages. This time, the error message showed that .NET Framework 4.0 was needed for the download. When I tried downloading the 4.0 version, I received the attached error message (3rd slide).

I appreciate your assistance.

I do not see an error message in the portion of the HTML page in your screenshot.
Can you send me the following file from your computer:
C:\Uesrs\Ironhide\AppData\Local\Temp\Microsoft .Net Framework 4 Setup_20240110_16005726.html

Can you also send me the following file from your computer?
C:\Users\Ironhide\Downloads\Skyline-64_23_1_0_268_2\Skyline-64_23_1_0_268\Application Files\Skyline_23_1_0_268\Skyline.application

The error that you were getting when Windows was trying to read that file is "the manifest may not be file or the file cou..."

Attached is the Skyline application file.

The Microsoft.NET Framework 4 Setup html file does not exist, I looked through the local temp folders and downloads.

Thanks.

How exactly are you trying to install the .Net Framework?

Skyline requires a minimum of .Net Framework 4.7.2, but, the way that these versions work, installing any version of .Net 4 which is greater than 4.7.2 would work.
You should not try to install 4.7.2, but, instead, you should try to install the newest version of .Net Framework 4.x.

The most recent .Net Framework 4.x is 4.8.1, so that is what you should be trying to install.

You can install 4.8.1 from here:
https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet-framework/thank-you/net481-web-installer

By the way, this question probably should have been asked on the Skyline support board, since it does not really involve Panorama. It is possible that someone who monitors the Skyline support board will be able to give you better advice.

Thank you for letting me know that this question should be posted on the Skyline support board.

I tried installing 4.8.1 and received an error message stating that this version of .Net Framework is not supported on this operating system.

Which version of Windows do you have?

If you are running Windows version 7 then I think you should try to install .Net Framework 4.8 instead of 4.8.1.
If Windows 7 refuses to install .Net Framework 4.8 then you might need to install a Windows Service Pack first.
